What Are The Good Fats?

First – WHY are some fats good for you and can help you lose weight?

And WHY on earth are some fats bad?

And WHAT are the good fats?

Okay, in our bodies we need certain vitamins and minerals, many of which we can only get through fats. Omega 3, 6 and 9 being the obvious ones that everyone knows about.

Good fats can give you luscious skin, beautiful hair and increase your overall sexiness by a fair percentage. Okay now I sound like a French shampoo salesperson.

But seriously, I used to get dry skin and when I upped my dosage of good fats and omega 3 oils, it just disappeared like magic.

Arthritis, immune system problems, heart conditions and a plethora of other conditions can be avoided and sometimes reversed by having an adequate intake of good fats.

Trans Fats

These are the types of fat that mass
producers of foods put in their goods to increase shelf
life so they can give bigger shipments to stores which
reduces transport costs for them.

This also means the stores can hold stock for far longer
and it doesn’t go off which is a huge profit booster for
the corporations.

These fats are very harmful to you and are found in cakes,
pre-made dinners, margarine, packet noodles, all cookies
and sweets, most breakfast cereals, most frozen foods
such as savories, crisps, the fatty rind bits on beef
and most pre-packaged food.

The only option if you want to still have the odd bit of
cake or cookie is to make them yourself, anything like this
bought from a store is just so full of crap making you
fat that it isn’t worth it.

Look up trans fat on wikipedia.org if you want the proof.

It states that they are not good for you unlike other fats.
They are a leading contributor of coronary heart disease!

Saturated fat

This is not good for you either, this is found in
dairy products, animal fats and chocolate to name a few.

Saturated fats can’t really be avoided if you are actually alive and breathing however.. Often we go to Granny’s house and she puts of a stew of beef that has a bit too much fat on it, but don’t turn it down.

Okay, so lard on bread is a pretty bad choice...

Saturated fats are fine in moderation, but it is always better to have the next two types of fats by far – but it isn’t always practical if you go to other folks place for tea or dine out often.
The good types of fat are obviously then…

Unsaturated!

These are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated.

Monounsaturated are such fats such as olive oil, peanut
oil and most nuts. These oils will often harden when cooled.

Nuts are good high in calories, but great for your health

Polyunsaturated fats are fats like flax seed oils, fish

(and fish supplements).
Just a heads up to make things a bit easier for you when
deciding what is healthy and what isn’t so healthy.
